PATHDC indicates that the respondent initiated direct contacts in order to search for jobs after receiving his/her doctorate. PATHDC is part of a series of variables describing the methods by which the respondent sought his/her first career path job after receiving a doctorate. The other variables include PATHEP, PATHFA, PATHIC, PATHNP, PATHOT, PATHPJ, PATHPM, PATHPO, and PATHPR.
