Codes and Frequencies
Description
MINRTY is an indicator variable identifying respondents who self-reported being an ethnic or racial minority.
Comparability
In the SESTAT NSCG 1993 sample, the respondent was not asked directly what race he/she identified as, instead, the NSF assigned race according to administrative data about the respondent. The NSCG sample respondents are selected from long-form US Census respondents who report having a bachelor's degree or higher, so it is expected that the administrative data the codebook refers to is the race response on the long-form Census.
