HD03Y5 reports the year, in 5-year intervals, in which the respondent received his/her highest degree (for all samples 2003 and after). For the comparable variable pre-2003, see HDAY5.

Comparability

HD03Y5 had originally been available from 1993 until 2013. Prior to 2003, the year ranges differed from the 2003-onward intervals by 1 year. For example, in the SESTAT 2003 NSCG sample, a code of 1970 corresponds to 1971 to 1975, whereas in the SESTAT 1993 NSCG sample, 1970 corresponds to 1970 to 1974. The years prior to 2003 were instead assigned to the variable HDAY5 so that all responses within the same variable corresponded to the same year category.

The 2013 S-NSCG five year intervals is one year off from the other samples in the variable. This will affect comparability.
