Description

NOCPRMG categorizes the occupation code of the respondent's principal job into seven broad fields. The variable NOCPR provides this information with a finer level of detail.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across available years and surveys. In the original data, NOCPRMG was a separate variable named N2OCPRMG in the 2010 and 2013 samples. The survey question, categories, and universes are relatively comparable between the two samples, so the variables were combined.

Prior to 2008, the category "Biological, agricultural, and other life scientists" was "Life and related scientists".

The response category "Science and engineering related occupations" was introduced in 2003.
